At the 9th International Symposium & 31st National Conference on Operational Research (HELORS 2023), June 29-30 and July 1, Athens, Greece, researchers from the National Technical University of Athens presented groundbreaking advancements in financing and data standardisation for building renovations aimed at enhancing energy efficiency. Two studies introduced innovative strategies to catalyse sustainable investments in the EU's building sector:

  1. Andreoulaki, I., Papapostolou, A., Karakosta, C., Mexis, F. D., Psarras, J. (2023, June). Sustainable Investments in the Building Sector: A Critical Review of Financing Tools and Methods.

This publication critically reviews financing tools and methods to promote energy efficiency retrofits in the building sector. The authors, from the National Technical University of Athens, analyse the correlation between building typologies and financing schemes, aiming to overcome barriers and increase renovation rates in the EU. The research suggests standardising sustainable investments by aligning projects with appropriate financial mechanisms.

  2. Papapostolou, A., Andreoulaki, I., Touloumis, K., Kapsalis, P., Psarras, J. (2023, June). Investigating a Building Typology for Supporting Renovation Investments.

This paper delves into the development of a Common Data Model for supporting renovation investments, particularly focusing on energy efficiency projects. The ENERGATE project is central to this study, which aims to create a web-based marketplace for connecting building owners with investors. The team from the National Technical University of Athens highlights how standardised building data can facilitate more targeted and effective investments in building renovations.

ENERGATEs' publications are in page 26 and 110.
