ENERGATE participated in the 6th Euro-Mediterranean Conference for Environmental Integration (EMCEI), that took place from 15 to 18 May 2024, Marrakech, Morocco. NTUA presented a paper titled "Promoting Retrofitting Projects in Buildings: The Designing Steps of an Online Marketplace", I. Andreoulaki, A. Papapostolou, V. Kotrogiannis, V. Marinakis.

The paper delves into the pressing need for optimised energy use and enhanced efficiency within the building sector, a pivotal area for achieving the European Union's climate change mitigation targets and eventual carbon neutrality. Despite the critical importance of green rehabilitation of buildings, its adoption has been slower than necessary due to a lack of standardisation in financing and a significant communication gap among market actors involved in renovation projects.

ENERGATEs' study introduces a novel approach to designing and implementing an online marketplace that fosters cooperation among various stakeholders—building owners, facility managers, Energy Service Companies (ESCOs), and financing institutions. The platform aims to create a user-friendly online marketplace designed to enhance cooperation among building owners, managers, ESCOs, and financial institutions.

The research is backed by feedback from five pilot organisations representing different facets of the energy efficiency investment pipeline. These organisations have helped identify four generalised use cases, each underscoring diverse perspectives, goals, and challenges faced by the stakeholders. The insights gathered have been instrumental in shaping a user-friendly ICT-based platform that enables efficient matchmaking between energy efficiency products and investors.

Our findings, based on feedback from the pilot countries and from different market actors, detail user-centric use cases and outline an ICT platform that facilitates efficient matchmaking between energy efficiency products and investors. This initiative promises to streamline processes and foster sustainable industry practices.
