ENERGATE was one of the co-organising projects of the 5th International Workshop on AI & Data Analytics in the Energy Sector, taking place in Mytilene, Greece, from 10–12 July 2025, as part of the 16th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA 2025).
In the context of the workshop, a Smart Energy Cluster session took place, with the following information:
Title: "Advancing the Energy Transition with Smart Infrastructure and Engaged Communities"
Date: 11 July 2025
Time: 13:00 - 14:30 EET.
Overview of the Session
The Smart Energy Cluster brings together a dynamic group of EU-funded projects that accelerate the energy transition through cutting-edge technologies and community-led approaches. Within this framework, six pioneering initiatives— ENPOWER, InEExS, DEDALUS, ENERGATE, HEDGE-IoT, and i-STENTORE—are leading the development of scalable, replicable solutions for a more sustainable, flexible, and efficient energy system across Europe.
These projects explore a broad spectrum of innovations, from blockchain-based energy services and peer-to-peer community tools to AI-powered grid orchestration, advanced energy storage, and digital marketplaces for building renovation and investment. They combine technical excellence with a deep commitment to social engagement, empowering both individuals and institutions to take active roles in shaping the energy systems of tomorrow.
For example, ENPOWER and InEExS are unlocking the potential of community energy through participatory tools, incentive mechanisms, and decentralized service models. DEDALUS builds on this by enabling carrier-agnostic demand response in residential buildings using socially informed design. On the infrastructure side, ENERGATE offers a platform for aggregating and financing energy efficiency projects, while HEDGE-IoT provides a flexible digital framework that connects IoT and AI across the energy value chain. i-STENTORE complements these efforts with innovative storage solutions that enable sector coupling and grid resilience.
Together, these projects form a holistic ecosystem. Their collective mission is to overcome key barriers, technological, financial, regulatory, and behavioral, by delivering actionable models that can scale and replicate across diverse European contexts.
This workshop explored how these initiatives are contributing to Europe’s energy and climate goals through two thematic sessions:
- Empowering Communities for a Smarter Energy Future
Focused on citizen engagement, energy communities, and flexible demand-side services. - Digital Foundations for a Resilient and Flexible Energy System
Highlighting the technologies and platforms that enable data-driven grid operations and sustainable infrastructure.
Participants gained insight into innovative approaches that merge technical advancement with social participation, while also engaging in cross-sector dialogue on how to co-create resilient, efficient, and inclusive energy systems.
